Tim Hollingsworth appointed CEO of Sport England

18th October, 2018

Those of you who help out with the junior squad will know that one of our parents is Tim Hollingsworth (his son Tom being in the winning junior quad this year). Tim has been Chief Executive of the British Paralympics Association for 7 years and has now been appointed in a new role as Chief Executive of Sport England. Big congratulations to Tim. Tim was asked how he feels being at MBRC in his new role –

I have never sat in a rowing boat in my life. But my son is now a keen rower and part of the junior squad, so for the past two years I have become an enthusiastic volunteer – not least driving the coaching launch on Sunday mornings. From this experience alone, I have witnessed the incredible commitment of everyone who gives their time in support of the juniors and the club as a whole – from coaches to those willing to serve on Committees and help deliver events. I know too how the club could always do more, with more. It has brought to life the vital role of volunteers in community sport and across clubs and how structures, systems and funding needs to recognise and reflect that nationally. This insight will be something I will certainly take into my new role (alongside of course the excellent way rowing can contribute to the health and wellbeing of the nation..!)
