Minerva top placed British Crew in their category at HOCR

Charlie Taylor, Joe Donnelly, Serryth Colbert, Glen Sullivan and Alice Morrey have just returned from sunny Boston, USA having done Minerva proud at The Head of the Charles – this is the biggest rowing race in the world with over 10,000 competitors!

They could have raced at Masters but chose to race in the much tougher Open category against young premier university crews and very strong British crews and placed as the top British boat in their category. Starting 39th out of 55 in heavy traffic the crew worked hard not just to race but also to pass four boats, a great effort considering the renowned technically challenging nature of the course. The crew put in a strong effort, coxed by Alice who navigated the notoriously difficult course, and finished 15th overall and 6th in club category. The crew were really pleased and very promising for Fours Head up in London on the Thames at the beginning of November.

Laura Cowan, communications at Minerva said “This is simply stunning result from a crew who have put their heart and soul into preparing for this race. With families and full time work they have had to find the time to train very early mornings often in the dark in order to get the mileage in and track their progress. You don’t get these sorts of results unless you are good at this stuff, but it also takes good planning and a lot of grit to get through the daily grind and really push yourself to achieve at this level. We are, it goes without saying, very proud that they have flown the Minerva flag at such a prestigious event”.
