Head of the Dart, April 20th

22nd April, 2024

Huge sighs of disappointment resounded in Minerva homes throughout the west country at the news that this annual 15K event was cancelled. So much training, so many kilometres wracked up on ergs and the river… Still, many of us are much fitter now than the start of the winter and the regatta season ahead will seem like a doddle, right?!

The race being cancelled did not deter several crews from enjoying a weekend away in the sunshine. Several Minervans put on their walking boots and took to the coastal path from Kingswear to Brixham.

The Masters Women crew were so keen to get on the water that they befriended a Dart Rowing Club member, Ellie, and borrowed an 8 from the club. “We haven’t used it for 2 years…” said Ellie, so the plucky crew (Nicole, Jules, Keri, Sharon M, Sharon A, Ali and Jacqui) put the boat together and gave it a service along the way. The outing was eventful – with waves lapping the boat, cross winds to endure and ferries to dodge – but it was worth definitely worth it.
