Stourport Regatta, August 10th-11th

12th August, 2024

Masters Men 4x-

Ian Burdis, Nick Gatehouse, Jonny Moore and Vince Whetherly. Stourport was the crew’s second race, and the first away from home water, since Nick and Jonny returned to rowing after a 25 year break. We had the advantage of the stagger on the start and were able to increase the lead before the bend so we could hold off Loughborough. As the stagger unwound around the bend, we finished with a good length and a half of clear water. A very satisfying end to the season.

Masters Women 4x-

The Masters Women crew of Nichole, Keri, Liz and Sharon, had had the disappointment of having to pull out of Henley (Kerry had Covid), so Stourport was the first race we’d entered as a coxless quad. Luckily, we were given a bye and went straight through to the final, against Monmouth.

At the start, we were on the outside of the bend on the opposite side to the club and got off quickly, taking the lead. Nichole, in bow, kept a great line in the middle of the river – we maintained our advantage throughout the course – a distance just shy of 1000m. As we approached the finish, we could hear cheers from fellow Minervans shouting “Go Minerva” from the bank. When we crossed the line first, we were so elated, we felt like we’d won the Olympics!

Mixed Masters 4x

A ‘scratch crew’ of Laura, Juliet, Richard and Ian Burdis had strong competition again a men’s boat, crossing the line second.
