Building rowing connections around the UK

Seven Masters Women from Minerva took part in a British Rowing Tour this month, meeting and rowing with like-minded people from all over the UK.

Over three days, they rowed 70 kilometres, exploring parts of The Thames from Bablock Hythe, through Oxford and to Maple Durham. Some waters were in idyllic rural scenes, others through the charms of the city. Many locks were encountered – a new and exiting experience where blades are drawn in (there’s no room to row) and the cox uses a paddle to manoeuvre. The lurch and draw of water as the lock empties is a unique experience, though the tour boats feel really stable!

Importantly, we made lasting rowing connections and friendships (including Julian from Avon County!) sharing our love of the sport and inspiring each other with ideas to take back to our crews and clubs. It reminded us of how privileged we are to be able to row…
