Josh Knight GBRT trials
21st November, 2024
Rumour had it that Josh Knight was acing his erg scores and was heading to Boston in Lincolnshire for his first round of GB trials. We found out about his rowing journey, how he prepped and how he measured up. In his own words…
“I started learning to row a year and a half ago when I joined the performance development academy (I had no previous experience in elite sport), I was at university in Liverpool but trained at the centre in Manchester for my final year of university. Main competitions included BUCS, Met, Marlow, and Henley in my novice year.
I’ve been training at Minerva since August. My week generally consists of two sessions a day. Sunday is my rest day. I do Strength and Conditioning three times a week, Water sessions every morning, and then Ergs afterwards if we’re not in the gym. My preparation for trials was just a typical week’s training with the week leading up to it just being lighter on Strength and Conditioning and a 2km prep piece.
The trials involved a 2km erg test on Saturday and I placed second overall with a score of 5:48.8, second to Ben Newton from Oxford Brookes who pulled 5:48.5. Then, on Sunday, there was a 5km water time trial: I placed 14th overall and third amongst first-time trialists, so I was pleased with my achievements over the weekend. The next round of trials is in February.”
